In questa sezione verranno presentate via via le foto scattate con gli obiettivi Minolta MC/MD Rokkor sul alcune DSLR CANON: EOS 300D (6.3 MP, APS-C), 20D (8.2 MP, APS-C), EOS 450D (12.2 MP, APS-C), EOS 5D (12.7, Full Frame).

This section will show some photos taken with the Minolta MC/MD Rokkor lens on some DSLRs CANON: EOS 300D (6.3 MP, APS-C), 20D (8.2 MP, APS-C), EOS 450D (12.2 MP, APS-C), EOS 5D (12.7 MP, Full Frame).

Images are available in both format RAW and JPG (always at full resolution). RAW files, of course, will report all data shooting (except the lens aperture shows separately) while for the JPG will reference only to the main data: time, lens aperture and iso setting. Will be shown from time to time MD / MC Rokkor lens used and, in some cases, the type of focus performed (infinity, hyperfocal, ...). For each lens will also be given a brief technical sheet and a summary comment that highlights the performance observed. A summary table, obtained from personal assessments and so not using rigorous methods of calculating performance (i.e. MTF and the like), will provide a general indication on usability and on the optical behaviour found in the reality practice, for every lens under test.

I have deliberately avoided making crop of images because all the details are directly observable by RAW files (I remember that the RAW files is the "digital negative") and JPG (alwais at "full resolution"). All images were shooting with the camera CANON EOS DSLR set in "M" (i.e. Manual Mode) and sometimes in "AV" (i.e. Priority Aperture Mode).

Finally, the large RAW files and limited space on the servers make difficult to insert much more images, for each lens under test, for each value of lens aperture. That is why some files could be gradually replaced (their RAW files / JPG will be marked with the words "Rimossa" or "Removed") by others with different values aperture set.

IMPORTANT: all image files can be downloaded in your computer for display only (the files are from 2 to 4 Mbytes large for JPG, as well 6-15 MBytes for RAW). Even though the images linked are intended purely demonstrative or without no value "artistic", is absolutely prohibited their use for any other form, in addition to that of view only cited above, not expressly authorized by the author.

(FULL FRAME - FF)

11/8
( good, good enough)
(excellent, very good)
Very good correction of aberrations without light falloff (also wide open on FF DSLR !). Great optical quality when stopped down to f5.6-f8. Good optical quality also at f2.8 (expecially on the center of the frame). Great mechanical costruction. A Minolta optical design shared with Leitz. A gem.
11/9
(good, good enough)
(very good, good)
A special lens with 104° of angle of view. Very good optical quality when stopped down to f8. Good optical quality also at f4 (expecially on the center of the frame). Great mechanical costruction. A gem.
10/9
(good, good enough)
(excellent, very good)
An impressive piece of glass and metal ! Very good correction of aberrations without light falloff (also wide open). Absent of distorsion for an ultra wide angle lens. Great optical quality on the center of the frame when stopped down to f5.6-8 (also on the corner). Great mechanical costruction. A complex with floating lens elements design. A gem.
9/7
(good, poor)
(excellent, good)
Very good correction of aberrations without light falloff. Exceptional optical optical quality (sharpness !) on the center area of the frame wide open and (expecially) when stopped down at all distance (best at middle distance), on both APS-C and FF. A bit soft wide open on the corner of the frame, expecially on FF DSLR, also when stopped down to f8. Absent of distorsion on APS-C DSLR. Slight distortion on FF DSLR. A complex with floating lens elements design. Great bokeh if used at f2.8 at minimal focusing distance. A bit prone to flare if hard lights hit the frontal lens. Great mechanical costruction. A Minolta optical design shared with Leitz. A gem.
9/7
(good, poor)
(excellent, good)
Very good correction of aberrations without light falloff. Absent of distorsion. Great optical quality on the center of the frame wide open and when stopped down at all distance. A bit soft wide open on the corner of the frame. A complex with floating lens elements design. A bit prone to flare if hard light hits the frontal lens. Great mechanical costruction, but not as good as the MC version. A Minolta optical design shared with Leitz. A gem.

10/9
(very good, good)
(excellent, excellent)
Great performance on the digital sensor (especially on FF DSLR). Very good correction of aberrations without light falloff also wide open. Great optical quality between f2.8 and 5.6 (close and infinity focus). Usable also at f2. A complex with floating lens elements design. Great mechanical costruction. A gem.
9/7
(good, poor)
(very good, good)

Although this is the oldest f2.5 version (1969) its performance is very good also on Full Frame DSLR. At f2.5 the optical quality is good, but only on the center of the frame, while there is a light falloff on the corner. At f4-4.5 the optical quality is very good and costant along the whole frame. Best performance at f5.6. A complex with floating lens elements design. It suffers from yellowing of internal lens and so it is better to use B&W (film or slides) or DSLR set in RAW and AWB mode. A bit prone to flare if hard light hits the frontal lens. Great mechanical costruction. A gem.
